Numotion's COVID-19 Response: What you Need to Know

Brentwood, Tenn. – Numotion has announced a new partnership with RibGrips to make the product available on their online Innovative Lifestyle Products catalog. American-made and designed by a quadriplegic veteran, these wheelchair handrims feature soft rib discs that offer 360-degrees of gripping surface molded over aluminum handrings that attach to most standard wheels. The patent-pending design provides users with easier range of motion thanks to a better grip. This prevents calluses and the need to wear gloves, while also providing users more revolutions per push.

“We created the Numotion online catalog, to offer our customers a wider array of products that can enhance their lifestyle and increase their mobility,” said Mike Swinford, CEO, Numotion. “RibGrips are a well-researched accessory for manual wheelchair users, we hope that adding them to our store will increase awareness and access to this innovative product.”

RibGrips are made from a unique proprietary thermal plastic material that is surprisingly soft and extremely resistant to tearing, peeling or separation due to strikes from sharp objects. They also require less pressure when slowing and breaking, providing relief to the user’s hand surface.

“After years of cycling through various vinyl and rubber coated handrims, I developed chronic calluses and shoulder pain. I knew there had to be a smarter and more comfortable way to propel my chair,” said Brandon Handel, designer and cofounder of RibGrips. “With great innovation in recreational devices for people with use of all four limbs, my partner Jacob Barber and I set out to design a solution for the problems we were encountering. The result was a handrim product that offered a mechanical advantage through geometry, but also utilized a material that was soft and durable to ‘grab you back,’ without leaving a sticky residue on your hands. After five years of testing materials and perfecting the design, we are excited to share RibGrips with the world this year.”

RibGrips fit most standard 24” handrims, and conversion hardware is available for those with 25” rims. They are a quarter-inch wider in diameter than traditional rubber coated handrims, maximizing gripping surface and ergonomic feel while still allowing users to fit through standard size doorways.

Colors available include Galactic Black, Hero Blue, Hot Pink and Racer Red. They are available for $259.99 per set.
