Serio Supports Husky Adapted:

If you’ve read past blogs (thank you by the way) you are very aware of the efforts to start an Adaptive Sports program at the University of Connecticut. As the program continues to take shape the student organization, led by Kenisha Lee, invited Paralympic Gold medalist Steve Serio to visit.

Steve, a graduate of the University of Illinois, shared his experiences from growing up in Long Island, NY, with limited Adaptive Sports opportunities, to playing professionally in Europe and top of the podium in RIO 2016.

The USA Men’s Paralympic team captain went into detail on how his opportunity to play wheelchair basketball at U of I greatly benefited as an athlete and as a person.

Kenisha Lee, President of Husky Adapted, declared, “It was a pleasure and honor to have someone of Mr. Serio’s caliber come to UConn to tell his story and speak on the importance of Adaptive Sports programs at universities.”

UConn student Mitch DuBoc echoed a similar note “I think it was a fantastic event. Steve Serio is a great speaker and it was really important to hear about how influential and beneficial his collegiate wheelchair basketball has been on the rest of his life. It makes me even more proud of what we are doing here on campus.”

RMF Junior Team Update:

The RMF Junior team competed in the Katie Kirlin Tournament in Philadelphia, PA last month going 1-3 in the tournament. The young team competed hard over the weekend and showed a lot of promise despite going through some growing pains.

The highlight of the weekend was a tough 3 point loss to the host team the Katie’s Komets. The Trojans had a chance to win the game at the buzzer but missed a last-second attempt to send the game into overtime. Lessons learned this tournament will clearly positively impact the young team going forward.
