Overview


It is important for clinicians, ATPs and other stakeholders to understand which children are potentially appropriate for powered wheelchairs. This course begins with an overview of the research that supports very early power for children. It continues with the processes involved in evaluating children, as well as how to consider access sites.

Learning Objectives

  1. The participant will be able to name two studies that support using powered mobility for very young children.
  2. The participant will be able to list one important step prior to conducting a powered mobility evaluation.
  3. The participant will be able to list one ability for the child to demonstrate by the end of the evaluation.
  4. The participant will be able to name two types of switches that can be used to operate a powered wheelchair.
  5. The participant will be able to name one activity that needs to occur during fitting and training of a powered wheelchair.
