Overview

The Postural Mat Assessment — its comprehensive and accurate interpretation is essential in achieving functional outcomes in Complex Rehab Technology (CRT). Many clinicians who do not have extensive experience in Seating and Wheeled Mobility feel that they do not have the prerequisite skills to assist in the prescription of CRT. Participation in this course will demonstrate to both the novice and the seasoned clinician that they do possess the physical evaluative skills and clinical reasoning skills necessary to accurately outline needed equipment parameters for the client in need of complex seating and mobility intervention.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify how inappropriate seating dimensions may negatively impact posture.
  2. Participants will be able to identify at least two key joints where R.O.M impacts seated posture.
  3. Participants will be able to identify a minimum of two key angles on the wheelchair base, which directly affect client posture.
  4. Participants will be able to translate findings from the Postural Mat Assessment into prescriptive angles of the wheelchair seating system.
  5. Qualified participants will be able to express confidence in their ability to appropriately conduct a Postural Mat Assessment.
