Taking Standing to a New Height

As humans we are designed to be stand; not just stand occasionally but spend most of our days standing. We stand to work, we stand to perform our daily activities and cares, and we stand in some cases to play. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the luxury of standing and research is beginning to show the impact of those in prolonged seated positions. So why have we been so hesitant to move our patients to standing. A big reason is the process of obtaining standing has long been difficult and overwhelming even for the best clinicians and equipment suppliers. Providing standing power mobility is now taking center stage in the world of CRT as many manufacturers are taking the chance on standing. This new world is no longer difficult to navigate but still overwhelming. In this course we will review the benefits of standing both medical and functional, the ongoing cost of sitting, and how to improve delivery of standing power mobility to get the best outcomes to take your patients to a new height.

Speaker Bio
Ashley is a licensed physical therapist currently working as the Regional Clinical Education Manager with Permobil for the Upper Midwest. Ashley joined Permobil in 2017 following a 13- year career in seating and mobility with the Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield WI. In addition to running the wheelchair and seating clinic, she provided ongoing neurological and pediatric care, gait analysis, and participated in ongoing research with BOTOX and Walk Aide. Ashley participate as the lead therapist with the Marshfield Clinic MDA clinic and BBS Center of Excellence. With Permobil, Ashley is currently presenting educational programs to therapists and DME providers regarding seating, mobility and pressure injury prevention.
