Overview

Smart technology has revolutionized the way people interact with their homes and complete everyday tasks.  Individuals are able to control devices such as doors, blinds, lights, television, etc. through their smartphones or tablets.  Much of the technology required to create such smart homes are commercially available and relatively affordable.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to describe the two primary types of technology accessible from power wheelchair controller.  
  2. Participants will be able to identify the components required for interfacing smart technology with a power wheelchair.
  3. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 different devices that can be accessed using IR or Bluetooth.

About the Speaker

 

Angie Kiger, M.Ed., CTRS, ATP/SMS
Angie Kiger is the Clinical Strategy and Education Manager for Sunrise Medical. She earned a Master of Education degree in Assistive Technology from George Mason University. Angie is an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS), and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). 
 
Angie has over 18 years of experience working in the field of assistive technology. Prior to joining the Sunrise Medical team in 2012, she worked with infants, children, and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to working as a clinician, Angie has served as an adjunct instructor at George Mason University and presented at numerous industry conferences in the US and abroad. She has written articles for publications and serves as a member of Mobility Management magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board. Each October Angie travels to the Dominican Republic (DR) as a member of the Propel DR mission trip where she volunteers in a pediatric clinic.
