Journey Back to Independence

Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Samran was adopted at the age of 7 by a loving family and is now the proud father of 20-year-old twin boys. He enjoys hockey, photography, graphic design, and recently earned his drone pilot license. Staying active and pursuing his passions has always been an important part of who he is.

His life changed unexpectedly while working on his home in South Carolina. After becoming dangerously overheated, Samran developed severe rhabdomyolysis. His body temperature reached 107 degrees, and after experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, he was successfully resuscitated by medical professionals. That moment marked the beginning of a long recovery and a new chapter in his life.

Less than a year ago, Samran partnered with Numotion to find the mobility solution that would help him regain his independence.

From their first meeting, Samran formed an immediate connection with his Numotion ATP, Troy, after discovering they had played hockey against each other years earlier.

“From day one, I clicked with Troy,” Samran shared. “He made me feel like family and never made me feel ashamed about needing a wheelchair. He always answers my questions and truly cares.”

Obtaining his power wheelchair was not a simple process. After two insurance denials, his case ultimately went before a judge. Throughout the process, Samran’s physician, Ms. Blair, and the Numotion team worked together to advocate on his behalf, providing the clinical documentation and support needed to help secure approval.

“Without Ms. Blair and the Numotion team, this could have been just another tragic story,” he said. “They fought for me every step of the way.”

Today, Samran’s power wheelchair has transformed his daily life.

Before receiving his equipment, he spent nearly 20 hours each day in bed and struggled with depression, believing that would be his future. Now, he enjoys cooking again, spending quality time with his family, relaxing outdoors on his deck, and reconnecting with his neighbors.

“My chair got me out of my deepest depression,” Samran said. “I truly thought I’d spend the rest of my life lying in bed. Now I feel like a million-dollar man. I’d rather be walking on my own, but this wheelchair has been a life changer.”

Although he hasn’t needed service on his wheelchair yet, Samran knows his Numotion team is only a phone call away.

“Sometimes I call Troy just to thank him,” he said. “Then we end up talking about hockey.”

For Samran, his power wheelchair is more than a piece of equipment; it’s a pathway back to the life he thought he had lost. We’re proud to support him as he continues moving forward with confidence and independence.
