Brentwood, Tenn. (March 23, 2022) – The City University of New York (CUNY) Inclusive and Adaptive Sports Program has landed its first-ever partnership, striking a deal with Numotion, the nation’s largest and leading provider of products and services that provide mobility, health and personal independence.

Numotion focuses on Complex Rehab Technology (CRT), urological supplies, home accessibility, accessible vehicles and other assistive technology that helps improve the lives of people with disabilities and provide greater independence.

"Under CEO Mike Swinford's leadership, Numotion has continued to be a leader in the durable medical equipment space as well as medical supplies,” said Ryan Martin, CUNY’s Director for Inclusive and Adaptive Sports. “They’ve had a tremendous history of supporting adaptive sports programs and investing in the community they serve. We are thrilled in their investment in our programs at CUNY and look forward to a successful partnership."

With Numotion as a sponsor, in turn, the program will promote Numotion through various mediums including digital signage, website ads, along with brand awareness through social media and other publications.

“Numotion is an awesome addition to our growing Inclusive and Adaptive offerings at CUNY and we are deeply grateful for their vision and leadership in supporting our student-athletes’ quest to compete at the highest stage of inclusive sports,” said CUNYAC Commissioner Zak Ivkovic.

“We are tremendously excited to have forged this partnership with the CUNY Adaptive Sports Program,” said Scott Ritchotte, Numotion Vice President of Sales. “It aligns our mission of improving the lives of people with disabilities by enabling them to actively participate in everyday life. Fostering and promoting inclusion is at the core of who we are, and CUNY’s adaptive sports program provides all student athletes an opportunity to compete.”

The CUNY men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams just wrapped up its inaugural season at the 2022 National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball National Championships at the University of Texas-Arlington. The men secured their first-ever tournament victories with wins over Eastern Washington and Nebraska-Omaha for a ninth-place finish, while the women took on the host Mavericks and the University of Arizona.

In addition to this partnership, joining the ranks of the NWBA is yet another notch on the journey towards national and global prominence as the program continues to make strides since its inception. The wheelchair team is a result of a 2017 initiative, CUNY's Inclusive and Adaptive Sports platform, providing an opportunity for 11,000 CUNY students with disabilities to participate in four sports — track and field, swimming, tennis and basketball, the first sport the University has adopted as part of this collegiate model. To date, the CUNY Inclusive and Adaptive Sports platform has over 35-students across 14 CUNY campuses. The CUNY wheelchair team is the first of its kind on the Eastern Seaboard.

With CUNY as a member of the NWBA, this idea has turned into a reality, as CUNY is now being represented on a national stage.
