Battery & Charging
Can I smoke in my power chair or scooter?
You should not smoke in or near your power chair while charging your batteries. Batteries release fumes that could ignite and create a fire hazard.
How long will my batteries last each day?
There are many variables that come into play when it comes to daily battery life. The two most important variables are speed and terrain. The faster you travel and the steeper the terrain, the faster your batteries will deplete. The best advice to improve your daily battery life is travel at moderate speeds when possible.
Is it safe to fly with my batteries?
Yes, according to the FAA, you are allowed to check any non-spillable wet battery, such as an AGM or Gel cell battery as long as, “The batteries are protected from damage and short circuit or installed in a device”. Compliant devices, such as your power chair battery box or removable scooter battery box, protect the batteries from “short circuiting”.
Is it okay to allow my batteries to completely die?
Allowing your batteries to completely die is detrimental to the batteries health and could hinder their long-term performance. Your power wheelchair batteries don’t develop a “memory” but this outcome could lead to over-sulfation and limit the battery’s capacity.
What should I do if I’m going to put my power wheelchair in storage?
Batteries are affected by their surroundings. That being said, the ideal location to store your power chair is in a temperature-controlled room, such as an extra bedroom. Before putting the chair into storage, you must fully charge the batteries. Depending on the length of time the device will be stored, it would be ideal to again fully charge the batteries once a month. This will allow the longest possible life for your stored batteries.
How do I know my charger is working?
Completely read the operating manual before using your charger to identify the status lights and what they mean. Don’t rely on the hand control or joystick to tell you if the batteries are charging, as they are only looking to confirm that the charger is securely plugged into itself. Always look for the status lights on the charger itself.
How often should I charge my wheelchair, and why is it important?
You should charge your chair as often as possible while avoiding overcharge. This is a complicated subject, but can be easily addressed by “charging all night, every night.” For more specific information consult your local Numotion location and “charging card”.

Insurance & Financing
What if I would like to upgrade my equipment or purchase a mobility item that is not covered by my insurance?
If the upgrade or desired product still meets your mobility needs and goals, and will not hinder your mobility, you do have the option at any time to simply pay for it out of pocket. Please talk with your ATP to determine what options are available to you.
What health plans does Numotion accept?
Numotion accepts Medicaid & Medicare in all states and most major medical carriers across the country.
Will all of my equipment be covered by insurance?
To get insurance coverage for Complex Rehab Technology, your insurance provider must determine you have a “medical necessity” for CRT. This means you must have a condition that requires the equipment to prevent, diagnose, or treat an illness, injury, condition, disease or its symptoms. Coverage will vary from policy to policy; however, in general most mobility items are covered by insurance when submitted with medically appropriate documentation.

Seating & Positioning
Can you tell me more about the cushions, backs and supports materials?
Our cushions, backs and supports are made of a combination of materials — typically foam, fluid, air and gel — that provide a stable, comfortable surface with properly distributed pressure. Some materials, like foam, retain heat more than others. If you have to decrease heat retention because of heat intolerance or increased sweating, then this should be discussed during the evaluation process.
All cushions have covers, and many have a choice of covers that are designed to deal with heat build-up and are fluid-resistant for easy cleaning. For those with more severe incontinence issues, we offer heavy-duty fluid-resistant covers.
How do I know which seating system is for me?
To effectively match you with the proper seating components, we evaluate your physical and functional needs. Based on the evaluation, your Numotion ATP and full clinical team helps you craft an individually configured seating system.
The evaluation generally includes:
- Your goals and challenges
- Your current and desired function
- A hands-on physical evaluation to determine interferences with your ability to sit
- Pressure mapping, which shows how pressure is distributed across your cushion. This allows our team to identify high pressure and low-pressure areas on your cushion and make adjustments that provide pressure relief
- A trial period with the type of equipment the clinical team feels will accomplish your goals
Why is it important to have a good seating system?
Proper seating provides stability and helps you comfortably participate in activities of daily living. Individually configured seats and backs help accommodate spasticity and can also help prevent injuries like pressure injuries.

Service & Repair
Benefits of Remote Service
Our unique approach shortens the overall time to complete repairs with:
- Ability to order required parts faster
- Reduced in person visits from service tech
- Resolution of some issues completely with just a phone call
- Service when you need it – no scheduling!
What can we solve for remotely?
Lots of things! Here are some examples of the most common:
- Worn tires and casters
- Worn out/torn arm pads, cushions, headrests, lateral pads
- Damaged joysticks (cracked, template/face worn out/degraded, etc)
- Damaged positioning belts, harnesses, troughs, etc
- Malfunctioning motors or actuators
- Joystick lockout
- Motor gearbox out of gear
- Loose or broken cables
How does remote service work?
You call Numotion for service. The remote technician will send you a text message. That text message secures a video call to our certified service technician who is also speaking with you or a caregiver on the phone. Aided by this technology, the service tech is often able to talk you through some simple procedures to restore functionality and resolve the issue. If the problem is a worn out part in need of replacement, the service tech can order the part eliminating the need to schedule an in-person visit just to identify the issue. Thereby, resulting in only having one visit to actually install the replacement part when it arrives.
Once I have my wheelchair, who provides future service and repairs?
Simply put, we do! We have more than 1,000 technical professionals located at our service centers throughout the United States. They’re able to provide you with fast, reliable and convenient service. Plus, our product manufacturers certify our service technicians. Visit our Locations page to find a Numotion location near you, or call 800-500-9150.
