Today is the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) give civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age and religion. The ADA and ADAAA also assure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.

Austin and Tabetha –

The ADA is such an important part of Austin’s life. Having a child with disabilities in the public school system is already hard, but with these laws in place we know what is available for Austin and can make sure that he gets everything he needs. 

Austin is able to get services at school that help him in so many ways. He is able to ride a handicap accessible bus home every day and have a 1:1 aid at school just for him because of the ADA. This is something that makes me feel so much more at ease when sending him to school.

I hope the ADA continues to fight for our children. They are the future. 





Big Lee – 

The ADA has made it possible for me to do the things I love and get to and from places. When I was in college I could get inside all of the buildings and classrooms. This law helps people like myself be able to do more on my own and be more independent.

It’s great to see that companies have improved their business over the years to make it easier for those with disabilities. As an independent travel consultant, I’ve been educating the company I work for on the ADA law. I want to make sure that individuals in wheelchairs can travel and experience the world too.
