Josh Basile is a trial attorney living in the suburbs outside of Washington DC. In 2004, Josh was injured at the age of eighteen on a family vacation at the beach. A wave picked him up and slammed him headfirst against the ocean floor shattering his neck.

Mentoring and empowering families impacted by paralysis through his nonprofit Determined2Heal foundation and video mentoring website SPINALpedia.com is one of Josh’s many passions. His mentoring focuses on improving quality of life through the navigation of active living, government programs, independent living, and disability employment. He loves living with adventurous wheels and participates in adaptive activities and sports like indoor skydiving, snow sit skiing, waterskiing, surfing, bowling, fishing, and his favorite slingshot golf – a sport he invented.

Over the last 15+ years, Josh said he has had many positive experiences with Numotion and a handful of negative ones. “Working with the Numotion team is most often enjoyable. I feel like I have grown with Numotion over the years,” said Josh. “I appreciate having a direct line of communication with my Numotion team and whenever I have a problem, I receive quick responses on what to do next or what to expect.”

Josh is paralyzed below his shoulders and with the assistance from his power wheelchair, he can remain independent and do the things he loves. “My wheelchair functions as my legs. To get anywhere, my wheelchair is the tool I use to access my surroundings,” said Josh. “My power wheelchair has many bells and whistles allowing me to adjust my feet, tilt, recline, seat elevation, and control my lights. Without my wheelchair, I would be living in a different world with far less independence and opportunity.”

Earlier this year Josh had a Numotion technician come out to his house to install headrest pushbuttons which would allow him to control specific functions of my wheelchair with his head movement. “I can now turn my wheelchair on and off, and cycle through the different seating adjustments with just my head movement. This helps immensely because I cannot physically lift my hand off of the joystick but have enough to drive different directions. The headrest pushbuttons have given me more independence and safety when operating my power wheelchair. Thanks to my Numotion technician I now have this new option to improve my quality of life.”

Josh is an active member of the Numotion Customer Advisory Board (CAB) where he shares his expertise as a mentor and advocate to a group of Numotion employees and other CAB members. “I have been extremely impressed as a member of the CAB. I applaud Numotion leadership which has taken the CAB seriously,” said Josh. “Their preparation, dedication, and execution before and after meetings have been fun to witness. The Numotion leadership is listening to CAB members and encouraging discussions to share both the good and the bad with the goal of making changes not only to Numotion but also to the Complex Rehab Technology industry as a whole. Feedback received has already turned into actionable items that are positively impacting myself and other Numotion customers today. I am excited for the conversations to continue and for many more changes to come.”
