Travis has been the Presiding Commissioner of Bollinger County, Missouri since 2010. After an auto accident left him a quadriplegic his sophomore year of high school, Travis spent 10 months in the hospital. Despite his injury, Travis finished high school with his class and graduated in the top 10 percent.

“I went to Southeast Missouri State and graduated in 2008 with a bachelor of science in applied mathematics and a minor in business administration,” said Travis. “I tried finding a job and was having no luck. That’s when someone asked me if I had thought about politics.”

After doing some research, Travis learned of an open position in his county. He ran for Presiding Commissioner in 2010 and was elected to a four-year term and then ran again for re-election in 2014 and won. “Unfortunately, I ran again this year and was not re-elected,” said Travis. “The best part of the job was being able to help my community.”

Travis was also able to educate others on his disability. “I worked with 13 surrounding counties,” said Travis. “I feel like my role helped bring disability awareness to the community as well as show others that a person with a disability can have a successful career.”

When he is not working, Travis enjoys watching sports, playing cards and trivia, and attending his godchildren’s athletic events. With the assistance of his powerchair, Travis can be more independent and mobile and do the things he loves. Travis shared that his Numotion ATP, Matt, has been very easy to work with. “I had actually met Matt earlier in the evening on the night of my accident while at a friend’s house. Funny how things come full circle,” said Travis.
