The Power of Support During an ALS Journey:

Terri’s Story

Diagnosis: ALS | Numotion Customer Since 2024

Terri never expected a few dropped items and occasional trips to lead to an ALS diagnosis. After months of testing, second opinions, and advocating for herself, Terri was diagnosed with ALS in May 2024.

Now 59 years old, Terri continues to focus on the things she loves most: spending time with her husband of 36 years, David, traveling to Disney World with family and friends, and adapting her crafting hobbies as ALS changes her mobility.

Terri first met Numotion ATP Tom Simon during her first ALS clinic appointment in November 2024 and later received her full-size power wheelchair in 2025.

“My main contact is Tom, and he is incredible in every way you can imagine. Kind, compassionate, and caring. You feel like you are chatting with an old friend when you speak with him, and he truly made the entire process feel easy and comfortable during a very overwhelming time.”

As ALS progressed, Terri transitioned from a walker to a travel power wheelchair before receiving her full-size chair, which has significantly improved her comfort and independence.

“Having the ability to recline, raise your legs, and adjust positions really helps manage fatigue and stay comfortable all day,” she said. “I can do so much more now because I’m comfortable and supported throughout the day. I also love being able to raise my seat so it’s easier to talk with people standing beside me.”

Terri hopes others living with ALS remember not to compare their journey to anyone else’s and to accept help when they need it.

“Everyone is different, and the disease seems to have a mind of its own,” she said. “Try to stay ahead of your changes as much as possible and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Accepting support from others can make such a difference.”

Throughout her journey, Terri says her faith has helped her maintain hope and a positive outlook, even during difficult moments.

“My faith has greatly strengthened me to endure my current situation and maintain a positive outlook,” Terri shared. “I know this disease is just a temporary setback, and that hope helps me continue moving forward each day.”

During ALS Awareness Month, Terri’s story is a reminder of the importance of perseverance, support, and maintaining independence through the right mobility solutions.
