For people living with disabilities, preparing for and living through a disaster or emergency situation can be traumatic. There is so much information out there, all of it trying to help, but it can be overwhelming.
For this reason, the Numotion Customer Advocacy Board has curated a list of what they found to be the most relevant, easy to follow, and helpful resources to help those living with disabilities be better prepared for any type of natural disaster or disruptive event in their local community.
Comprehensive Resources
Preparedness for All: Emergency Planning for People with Disabilities – Video from the CDC, targeted to people with disabilities, with a great set of tips to plan and prepare.
People with Disabilities | Ready.gov – Includes disability-specific guidance and accessible videos for disasters and emergencies.
Emergency Supply/Prep Checklist
Disability-Specific Supplies for Emergency Supply Kits | ADA National Network – Printable checklists with reminders for disability specific supplies.
Having a printed checklist to refer to as well as a supply kit/go bag ready to go when an emergency occurs is critical as you will be distracted and likely not thinking completely clearly in the moment.
